Automaton Promotion

A fairy tale about finding love in the 32nd century.

All the Earth's cities have grown together, and automated servants have displaced most of the human population. Gary, one of the rare human beings, is convinced against his better judgement to upgrade his housekeeping robot to become the "perfect" girlfriend.

Which does not go well.

Meanwhile he finds and falls for a real woman named Margaret, who is on a quest to find the edge of the city.

Just as Gary finds both joy and salvation in Margaret's faith in the world beyond, Gary's robot continues relentlessly on her programmed path to discover -- then do -- whatever it takes to make him happy.
