The Biggest Obstacle You (or your project) Probably Face

The greatest obstacle you (and/or your project) face.

Some of you may know me, or at least have heard my name.  A lot of you may not.  That’s a good thing, because it will help me illustrate my point.  But, just as a frame of reference, I’m an indie film guy.  I write, have directed a few times and have held most production jobs at some point or another.  I’ve pitched and had my stuff read by industry folks and continue to make incremental progress in my…

URGENT - help for film incentives bill - act TODAY 3/9/12

URGENT. Representive Claire Levy needs to understand how much HB12-1286 means for Colorado. Please contact her office today and let her know that you care about this bill and Colorado's economy. Rep Levy is on the Joint Budget Committee, and could kill funding for the bill. This is something that needs immediate attention. Let me repeat that. Her vote can kill the whole bill. Let's show her that Colorado wants this to happen now! Thanks to…

EDIT YOUR PICS (final warning) thanks all :)

Hello CASA members, the time has come.

Right after the first of the year (2011) the admins sent a message to all users asking that you edit your picture content down, to 10 items per user. While we are happy that many of you have done so, to help the CASA community maintain its bandwidth, we are sad to see that many have not. So please edit them, as we must immediately start deleting pictures for you.

If you missed the initial message or feel that you were not…

What do I know about selling a script for TV?

I get asked a lot about writing and selling scripts for television. Why this is, I don't really know because the short anwer is: Not much!

Several years ago, writing for TV was a possible path for me and I wrote a couple of spec scripts, had a few meetings and had an opportunity to join a staff…

It's simple, SERVE THE STORY

By David Dalton

Lead Coach,

DS StudioWorks

I write shortly after our Tuesday Night Masters Class ends. I cannot express enough how proud I am of these amazing actors. I do not see them as a class, I see them as a brilliant ensemble. My coaching partner, Chad, and I struggle to find ways to challenge them each night they meet. They have met each challenge with enthusiasm and commitment. This group usually hangs around after class and… Continue

My instructional DVD, "How to Memorize Lines FAST Using S.M.T." has been released!

Hi,

For those of you who attended the October CASA Mass Focus, you had heard our explanation of my new memorization technique and saw an example of how quick actors can get off book.

The DVD contains step by step instruction of the S.M.T. exercises, a Scene Study Guide and an approach to the commercial copy breakdown. It also includes a real-time demonstration of S.M.T. using a 2 person scene and a "Teacher's Guide" for those who wish to incorporate S.M.T. in their workshops and… Continue

Thanks for making The Grind groovy

Thanks for making me a featured member. I was very pleased with the turnout last night; people had to stand and were spilling outside. It couldn't have been a success without all the people who participated. So, thanks Maiz, Gossert, Leslie, Clark, Turse, Stovall, Hueso, Angello, Mad Dog, Schulz, Wombatcast, and everyone else I'm forgetting, for showing up and supporting the other filmmakers there.

Made a lot of connections and laid the groundwork for many future collaborations.

Actors, What Are You Worth to the Indie?

*THIS TOPIC SUGGESTS WHAT THE ACTOR SHOULD DO REGARDING INDIE FILMS, NOT STUDENT FILMS.

Actors may not have much to say about how indie films are made or how they get sold, distributed and marketed or when and where they get shown. However, actors have complete say over what they, as actors, are worth. Unfortunately, I don't think there are many actors in this town that know this.

Most indie filmmakers know the how important it is to have good actors working on their project.… Continue

Auditioning for Indies: Are you wasting your time? (Updated)

This is an old post I felt the need to re-post. It has been re-written a little.

There are plenty of independent films sprouting up this year and actors are salivating at the thought of landing a role; whether or not it pays, may not matter. Whether or not the film will be of decent production quality may not matter, either. If they can get the film into a film festival, an actor can still get that…

What does it take?

To be great.

Successful.

Powerful.

Loved.

Adored.

Wanted.

Inspired.

Motivated.

Meaningful.

Insightful.

What does it take to be all the things a person could ever want to be and more?

Personally I think it could start off with standards.... and I mean start to have standards. Set a boundaries for yourself but no limit for your gift. The people whom you surround yourself with may influence your line of thinking and the way you… Continue
