Hi there friends,
I wanted to take the time to welcome you to my blog and to point you to some valuable resources about my company DCH Films and Entertainment and about myself personally. Look the film industry is a tough cookie to crack, and I know that two heads are always better than one, so networking is a key factor in success with big projects or small ones. When I started pursuing this career, I had already been through some major changes in my life. I had been through war,…

My trip to California was very successful! I had a few auditions and met a ton of people. I never knew that standing in a coffee house to get coffee would be a prime place to meet really neat folks! I was invited to a "schmoozer" and had a blast! I just hope I hear something soon, I NEED MONEY!!!! ;-)
Hope you all are doing well!
Whew, back to school ;-)

I was recently asked to write a description of my daughter in one million words or less, which would be handed in to her teacher.
What follows is what I will be turning in. It's a description, but I decided to do it in short story form.
Annaliese Reed, Master of her Domain
(also known as, Annaliese in One Million Words or Less)
by King Ken Reed
On this, the 14th day of September, in the Year of our Lord, two-thousand and nine.
Once upon a time,…

We had the pleasure of video taping the Audition Workshop for Jo Edna and were very pleased to see we were "on the same page" with her when it cam to the film audition.
Here's some of the key points we noted:
It's slow EVERYWHERE! The face of the filmmaking is changing due to economic reasons. But Jo feels it 's starting to pick up again and will likely get back to normal soon.
Studio films are starting to use locals more often for some larger roles, but the "LA…

Last month, I filmed my first music video--for an original song of mine called "This Too Shall Pass."
The video itself will be screened up at the AMC Theater in Westminster on Wednesday, Sept 30. It will be a part of an independent film event, with several other short films being shown--the main short is called "The Infected," and the music video will be shown in between some of the other films that night. The details are all there, check it out. It will only cost a $5 donation to…

We began filming The Highwayman with a 3 day shoot over Labor Day weekend at the Colorado Governor's Residence.
The first day was really a night. We started at 6pm and left at 5 am. The Governor and his wife stayed somewhere else that night. One of their boys stayed for a while but finally couldn't take the screaming. (Don Kraus is a great screamer.)
We did not meet any ghosts. We will have to insert our own later. Some members of the crew did report cold spots in some…

I need a big chunk of warehouse space in which to built sets for my current film. Does anyone know of anyone who either owns a warehouse or is involved in local commercial real estate? Ideally, we'd find someone who has space they're not currently renting who could be convinced to donate it for a few months to our film project, as a tax-deductible donation. Any ideas?

Hi everyone,
We've had a great response and excitement for this month's Actor's Arsenal class. If you are interested, please see our events for this month and for more information, visit our website on the "Workshops and Seminars" page. Mark Grove will be working with actors in the seminar dealing with Emotional Awareness. A key skill for all actors, and even great for directors to connect with their actors. Mark's uniuqe approach gives you an untapped doorway to a method that is very…

Check out the trailer for Discouraging Words--a political comedy in which I have a supporting role. This is an indie film based out of Fort Collins, which filmed during the summer of '09. It will make the film festival circuit in 2010.

This film is still in production, and will be feature length when completed in the Fall of 2009. It will be in post during the Spring of 2010, and submitted to many film festivals at that point. The month of September will be busy for this project, including several trips to film scenes in Leadville, CO--including the climax shoot-out in an authentic mine encampment. The website for Film Forge Studios will be updated sometime this Fall, so please keep checking back (FilmForgeStudios.com).
