Announding auditions for Papercat Films’ indie short "Skeletons", directed by Kristine Hipps
“Skeletons” is a story about family, devotion, love, art, crime, guilt, bad habits, and the way we cling to our kin like anchors in the ocean of our crazy lives. The film opens at a memorial service for the character of Alex, and is interspersed with flashbacks and snippets of home videos taken over the years.
AUDITIONS: Wednesday October 14th, 7pm – 9pm at the John Hand Theater, Room 206.
Please send photo and resume to kris_hipps@yahoo.com
SHOOT DATES: Sunday October 25th, noon to 4pm, and Tuesday October 27th 4pm – 10pm.
Gary Otte will act as DP on the project, which will be shot on Hi-Def DV.
*There will also be a casual, partly-improvised shoot for a “home video” of a Cain family Christmas party to be scheduled in November. The date of this shoot is more flexible since we’ll be filming on a mini-DV camcorder, and can be scheduled around cast members’ conflicts.
Location: The home of Sara and Jeremiah Michael, 5785 S. Lakeview St. in Littleton, 80120
Rehearsal Dates: I am willing to work around actors’ schedules, but the days I have set aside for rehearsals are Sun Oct 18th thru Thurs Oct 22nd, so all actors must have some availability within that time frame.
Info/Conflict sheets will be supplied at auditions.
CHARACTERS:
Holly: 30’s, an artist, single, independent, outspoken and fiercely protective of her siblings.
Tom: brother to Holly and Jill, late 20s, a writer for a hip men’s magazine, a quick-witted cad with a big heart.
Jill: sister to Holly and Tom, 30s, strong in her faith in God, a bit emotionally repressed but extremely kind, intelligent and giving - would give you the shirt off her back, with a small sermon tucked into the pocket.
Alex: Her husband, 40s, a chronic out-of-work alcoholic who has allowed hopelessness to take over, often taking it out on Jill. Killed in a drunk-driving accident, he is presented in the “home videos” section of the film only.
Jean: Their mother, 50s-late 60s, also strong in her faith, kind and loving, a rock to her family
Sam: Their father, 60s – 70s, handsome, with a small-time criminal past and an infectious charm that hides a sociopathic nature
Wanda: Their cousin, 20s, funky, has no reservations about saying the word “dildo” at a memorial service.
Mark: Her boyfriend, 20s-30s
Katy: Alex’s sister, 30s, a small-town woman, remorseful about not being there enough for her brother, feels guilt over his death.
Donna: Alex’s mother, 60s – 70s, a tired woman, stunned and confused over her son’s death.
Friends and Family: Guests at Alex’s memorial service, as well as Christmas party guests in the “home video” portion of the film.
I'm a student at the Colorado Film School in Aurora and I was looking for 2 actors for a short film we have to make for a Directing class. It would only require one night of your time sometime in the next couple of weeks. The emphasis isn't on production values, it's about the actor/director relationship. If you would be interested in working with me, please let me know and I can send you over a copy of the script and some more details. Thanks!

See you next week. :)
