Profile Information

Are you a former member of CASA on MSN Groups? If not, are you a resident of Colorado?
Yes, I have been a member of CASA for several years and a Colorado resident for even longer.
How are you involved in Colorado's Film Industry? (Actor, Writer, Filmmaker, Crew, etc)
I am a Cinematographer/Director of Photography. I do lighting as well.
Tell us about yourself and/or how CASA can help?
I have quite a bit of experience with over 3000 television productions and countless indie productions (features, shorts, etc.) to my credit. I am in charge of the studio at KBDI Channel 12 where I direct, technical direct, do lighting and operate cameras and jib. I also operate cameras, jib and do lighting for Denver's Channel 8. For the last 8 years I have been a part of the Red Rocks video crew. If you've been to a show at Red Rocks, you've seen my work.
I own lots of equipment including a 15,000 watt (plus) lighting package, hydraulic dolly, tracking dolly, jib, audio gear, cameras, etc. If you are interested in a superior digital acquisition format, I own a RED One Digital Cinema Camera with lots of accessories. It includes a Cooke 20-100mm T3.1 zoom lens and a Duclos modified 11-16mm T2.8 wide angle zoom lens. I have a regular crew that I work with if needed.
Let's make some movies!

Does this make sense?

If you're an actor and you join CASA looking for opportunities, does it make sense to upload a headshot or two?

If you send me a screenplay should you maybe think of a way to include your name as the author?

If you're making movies and "web series" would it make sense to have a "story" first?

Why do Jim Brennan, Patrick Sheridan. Haylar Garcia and I always have to be the voice of reason around here?!?!?!?

Happy New Year everyone!    ;-)

DSLR for serious filmmaking?

I always cringe when I hear about someone using a DSLR to shoot a movie. I've never shot with one, and to be honest, at this point in time, I'd probably fight tooth and nail to avoid it. I've read so many things about the drawbacks inherent in acquiring footage with a DSLR, that I just can't understand the appeal.

With line skipping, poor audio implementation, moiré, compression artifacts, awkward form factor, etc., it seems like trying to make a movie with a DSLR would be an exercise… Continue
