Actor, writer, director/filmmaker
Tell us about yourself and/or how CASA can help?
I'm interested in making new contacts, maintaining old friendships, and supporting the Colorado Film industry... While working with dynamic/creative/organized filmmakers and artists.

Currently I'm a regular performer at Adam's Mystery Playhouse where we create comedy-improv in the murder mystery format (adamsmysteryplayhouse.com). It's interactive and anything can happen, which keeps the comedy on-the-edge hilarious!

In addition to being an actor, I'm one of Denver's busiest face painters (www.facepaintingdenver.com), working for special events and on projects like Asgard Entertainment's "Gathering of Heroes" as a special effects make-up artist.

Once upon a time I received my BA from D.U., where I studied literature, creative writing, theater and studio art. . . So looking back it seems inevitable that my love of these disparate mediums would coalesce in a passion for the all-encompassing medium of filmmaking.

A little about my history...My stories and poems have appeared in literary journals, including Foothills Magazine, and The Orange Coast Review. Currently I’m working on a book-length creative non-fiction memoir. Excerpts of this work are slated for publication in an anthology called Fast Forward.

While getting my bachelors degree, I took a semester abroad in Paris, where I began studying acting with Jack Waltzer from The Actor's Studio; he was in France at that time coaching actors on the set of a Roman Polanski movie and was teaching some workshops as well. Jack played himself in the acting class sequences of Tootsie, so you might remember him from that. I attended Jack’s intensive workshops in Paris and I also studied with him in London, England, and for two summers in New York. After graduating from college I studied with Sandford Meisner’s protégé, William Alderson. William (“Bill”) Alderson was also the associate director at The Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC for ten years.

In 17 years of acting experience (I started young) I’ve performed in Denver and also in LA in numerous small indie films and in several plays including Tennessee Williams’ Suddenly Last Summer, Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance, Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and George Bernard Shaw’s Misalliance. I was honored by Out Front and Life on Capitol Hill (two Denver newspapers) as “Best Actress in a Comedy” for my work in George Bernhard Shaw’s “Misalliance.”

I was blessed with the opportunity to tour internationally with a comedy-improv group, performing at U.S. military bases in Japan, Korea, Guam, Okinawa, Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, and England in 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Wanting to bring together my experiences as a writer & as an actor, I began to direct plays which I'd written. Titles include Boundary Issues, and The Martini Debacle, of which Variety critic Bob Bowes wrote, "The evening showed great promise, jump-started by actress-writer-director Katharyn Grant's 'Martini Debacle,' setting the tone for a well-written, contentious go-around. . .the climax was hilarious and sweet."

Directing for theater led me to write and direct short films, including Dave and Nadine, Cat’s Cradle, Synchronicity, The Accoutrement, and The Tao of Pez.

My films have been shown at Starz Film Center, Broad Humor Film Festival (BHFF) in Venice Beach and Rome, Italy, and on the Comcast Network, the Emmy-nominated tv show “Drop Frame” on PBS, and on The Independent Film Channel (IFC). My film “The Accoutrement” received an honorable mention from BHFF and received distribution from WIC (Women’s International Cinema).

I'm passionate about giving back & grateful for every chance I get to make film, and to act in projects I believe in and write material that expresses something real and/or makes people laugh. It's not about competing, it's about having a voice, and I believe there's room for everyone to shine.

Hey Katharyn! I love the photos! Welcome to the new House of CASA. I think you'll enjoy all the ways you can decorate your room (a.k.a. My Page). The first tip is to scroll your mouse over the left side of any section title. You'll see an icon appear. Click it and you can drag the segments around. For instance, if you want to move your photos to the top of the page - move your mouse to the left of "Katharyn Grant (Kayti)'s Photos" click the icon that appears and drag it to the top. To change the theme of your My Page click the change theme link right below your main photo. You can try out several looks. Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or comments. Welcome home! -- Cheryl
