Derrick Trimble commented on Derrick Trimble's blog post InkTip.com and other resource pools
"After four months, InkTip has not garnered a solid lead. A CSR at Inktip wrote me that you need to keep one script up until it gets synopsis or script reads. Lots of logline reads. Anyway, it may prove to be a good resource for others. The premium…"

Are you a former member of CASA on MSN Groups? If not, are you a resident of Colorado?
Been with CASA for almost two years.
How are you involved in Colorado's Film Industry? (Actor, Writer, Filmmaker, Crew, etc)
Screenwriter
Tell us about yourself and/or how CASA can help?
It has been a slow year for me regarding writing. I became bogged down with marketing aspects and lost some heart. After attending the 2009 Screeenwriting Expo I realized that three of my scripts needed more work. To keep writing, I started a blog called pokeindaeye.blogspot.com or pokeindaeye.wordpress.com. Now that I have that medium established, I want to use my blog and Twitter to describe my writing recovery process and physical transformation. I'd like to connect with more CASA members.

Making the most of networking receptions

There is good and bad chatter on the Net regarding conference style expos and seminars for film industry folks. I am a positive person that sees any event as an opportunity. My approach is...do your homework and then jump in as an informed participant.

My limited experience is that networking receptions are often populated with people looking to advance their business, product, services or other personal goals. I plan to attend a screenwriting expo in LA this October. The event… Continue

Screen Adaptation Ins-and-Outs

Hello,

I continue to mull over an idea of adapting a short story I read when I was a teenager. The original publication was 1900. Despite my scouring of the Net for a concise answer to my questions regarding rights and ownership, I remain empty handed. Does anybody know or can you direct me to where I may find some legal advice or a resource of basic rules? My guess is that because the work is over a hundred years old that the it may be fair game.

Does anybody out there… Continue

2009 Screenwriting Expo

Howdy!

I am heading to the 2009 Screenwriting Expo LA in October. If you are attending I'd like to hook up and meet fellow screenwriters. Perhaps we can even meet beforehand to talk about marketing strategy or just inspire one another to press on.

Love to hear your ideas for connecting in LA or before.

InkTip.com and other resource pools

Today I looked into a link a friend sent me. The site is called InkTip.com. Has anybody used it? I am curious about the anonymous way that producers et al can look at writers log lines and synopses. Are resource pools like this for screenwriters to show their work safe, used, beneficial?

Hoping to stimulate some discussion on this topic.

(I am not promoting InkTip, but rather attempting to learn about this and similar sites that offer a boost for screenwriters to show… Continue

Funny Papers: Off to the Producers (Day 7)

This week was a writing marathon. I don't know how many hours I put into writing and editing. I set a goal to complete the first draft by Saturday night and the edited version by Sunday (tonight) at 7:00 PM. To my own amazement, I completed the final edit at 100 pages at 6:00 PM. At 7:00 I pressed the send button to submit my script to the producers.

This morning while I was doing my weight training I saw a similarity with my writing effort this week. I spoke with a guy in the locker… Continue

Hey Derrick - welcome to our community! We're still setting up our new home on NING after being on MSN Groups for 7 long years. It will take a little while for us to get 100% back to business, but once we're up and running this will be a much better site for our writers. Darren Foster, one of our resident Screenwriter instructors and professionals has started up the Screenwriters Corner. We're excited that we managed to pull him in, as he's right in the middle of a major project for Vail Film Festival and is also teaching at the local colleges. He'll be kicking in full-force soon and there will be no better place to be than here and in his Screenwriter Corner. So, welcome! Make yourself at home.

On the acting side I just finished up a student TV piltot and have been lightly auditioning, finals are coming up ( I go to Metro State) and I just don't have a whole lot of free time. On the production side, myself and a friend shot a short three weeks ago and we are finishing up editing and getting ready to submit it to some festivals! :)

It is my humble opinion that you should NEVER EVER EVER share you IP's with people online. Putting a synopsis or logline out there, is like throwing your original idea or hook into the wilderness to be reproduced by other writers, production companies or studios. Never share things with anyone in any way without the protection of a lawyer and/or reputable agent.
