Composers- I'm considering putting together another composition contest. The last one (hosted on another website) featured about 20 submissions for a 2 minute long computer animation short. I had three industry pro judges and a prize lined up (the winner could pick between various books on music composition, production and other audio nerd stuff). My question to all of you is- would you be interested?

I will.
Nathan,
I can't believe more people aren't interested in this. It's just nuts!!

Hey guys,

Bit of an update: I'm assembling the judge panel right now. Things have been moving a bit slower since I recently moved but we are moving forward on this. When it's opened up, I'll let you all know.

PS- interest on this site has been pretty low but I have other sites and other folks interested so it's not going to be a two person competition! :P
That's great to hear Nathan. I'm looking forward to it!!

Update: I have three of the five pro judges selected. I'm hoping to snag two more but if need be we can go with three. I'm also talking with gamedev.net about a prize structure as well as getting a game level together for all contestants to play through and then write the music. I think it would be very cool to have a playable level where the composer can write music, test it in-game then make iterations on it.

Here's the post discussing the project: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=535778

and here's the post calling for any game submissions: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=544836

Slowly but surely! :)

My sincere apologies for the delay in making this contest happen. Here's an update:

*I have a potential game for us to work on. I'm working with the designer/programmer of the game to see how feasible it would be to create an exe that a composer (i.e. a non-programmer guy!) can import the music into a level, test it, iterate and then provide me with the finished result. This will then be turned into a judging panel for review.

*I have contacted five VERY prestigious judges and have heard back from two of them! If the final three say yes to judging this contest then we'll have a complete judging panel and I think everyone will be impressed with their credentials.

*I'm currently working with GD.net to set up a prize structure. Last year we had one winner. Depending on the number of contestants involved with this year's round, I'd like to have more winners. Much like a first, second and third place set up.

Finally let me say how excited I am about the possibility of contestants working on a game project instead of a video trailer. Scoring to video has many useful and educational elements but supporting an interactive game is much closer to the goal and topic of this website! :)

Thanks for hanging tight. I promise I'm working on this.... on top of all of my other stuff!

Nate
