Celebrate filmmaking at YOUR monthly MASS FOCUS !

What happens at the new CASA MASS FOCUS General Assembly?

FILM: To get our creative juices flowing, we open with a locally (10 minute max) produced short film and discussion.

SCENE WORK: Then we proceed to pick random local actors from the audience to participate in the traditional GA "cold read" of a scene by a local screenwriter, after which, we will perform the scene with actors who have pre-rehearsed this scene to the writer/director's liking. Then we will engage in comment and discussion about the evolution of the cold read to the finished scene. This way we get to see the scene's transformation, understanding the process of actor choices, character development and direction instead of JUST the cold read and critique on such a raw example.

SCENE AUTOPSY: This is another new twist. MASS FOCUS will feature a 5 minute video clip of a famous movie scene. the audience will watch and then discuss. What makes this scene work, or not work? How does it address and move the story, what is its respective grammar to the film; ie- dialog, character, foreshadowing or all of the above. Let's learn how to improve our crafts by watching the masters and studying their process and intentions.

MEET YOUR CASA COMMUNITY: We are dedicating time here to have CASA members from the audience come up, talk about their projects, ask for advice, promote, pitch or anything else that they want to do.

GUEST SPEAKER: We are inviting a guest speaker to participate in every event. These are working professionals in multiple related fields. Acting, producing, directing, cinematography, music composition, agents, you name it. These speakers will be available for audience Q&A. We are striving to bring experienced and accomplished guest speakers so that we can all really leave our GA's with new knowledge and perspectives.

MIXER: One of the most important parts of a community is the ability to gel by discussing topics that are fresh on our minds. Once the daily events have finished, we have allowed extra time to mingle, meet, network, whatever you want to call it. Let's build our community face to face, not just online!

WHO'S INVITED

>All writers and actors who are able to attend are encouraged to do so. Agents, Filmmakers, Directors and Producers are invited to join us as audience participants.New comers at all levels are welcome.

WHAT TO BRING

Writers interested in having 1-6 pages of their scripts read for future MASS FOCUS events should prepare and bring a copy of their scene and a brief character breakdown. Actors should consider bringing their headshots & bios to the meeting. There is no charge for the meetings or to be a member.

-and as always bring as many biz cards as you have passion!

Hello! For those who don't know me, my name is Darla Rae.
I'm a producer, director, actor, and writer and I own Film It Productions.
I recently began hosting the general assy meetings so that Patrick could find time for other ventures.(I guess my official title is Denver Manager) There is also a North group.
Hopefully those who are new to Casa (Colorado Actors Scripts And Films)or returning to Casa here at NING have taken a look at the events posted.Tomorrow Dec13th in lieu of our normal general assy mtg I chose to host a Holiday Schmoozer, or should I say my Production Company.Since we were making a transition I thought it would be a great idea for people who haven't really been involved at the GA to come together and meet and greet and hear from our seasoned veteran members, just what the good, the bad, and the ugly of CASA is all about! Seriously we want nothing more than to grow this group and build the number of active members who attend the GA. You will not find a group more supportive or carring.
Make no mistakes this group is supportive even when being direct by quoting the infamous Ken Hendricks,"it doesn't suck too bad"

We want and need more actors and writers at the GA's. We would like to know what you would like to see happen at the GA's.If you came a long time ago and left,or got busy, start off the New Year by checking us out at the schmoozer tomorrow and then come to the 1st GA of 2009(to be posted)
Or if you come occasionally, try to come more often. If your new to our group and never attended come and take part in a great group.

It's wonderful to have this online networking, bbut there is still nothing like getting up close and personal with a bunch of Creatives Schmoozing.

So I hope to see you tomorrow at the Schmoozer or at least the 1st GA of 2009.
I see a lot of new faces on here. I'm excited to see all the new talent.Perhaps this forced change of moving sites has generated new life into our dynamic group and will make it Fabulous!
Without Cheryl, and Susan, and Darren, and Paddy, it wouldn't be here , so here's to keeping it going, and growing!
Thanks
Darla Rae

Thanks to Ken Hendricks who saved the day. In addition to our normal CASA format Ken is opened to doing a tour for those who would like one.
Sorry for the trouble but there was a slight scheduling conflict.
Please make sure to sign up if you want to perform a monologue,or you want to bring pages for cold reads.

I'm sorry to notify everyone that we will not be able to have the GA meeting tomorrow as scheduled.UNforseen circumstances and staffing situation has caused a location problem.I'm deeply sorry if this causes anyone difficulties, especially since we had such a great turnout at the schmoozer last month.
Rest assured I will personally work to lock in dates and times for the next three months GA. whether it be at the BUG or another location,so that we can continue the great creative work which has been happening at CASA.

If you have any problems, with this I apologize once again.

Warm Regards,

Darla Rae

Hi, Colorado filmmakers,

I am producing a new show, tentatively called Colorado: On Location, through Denver Open Media that will appear on Comcast Channels 56, 57, 219 and various web sites starting in March. The show, tentatively a monthly 30-minute program, features filmmakers, film projects and independent film screenings in Colorado, and I’m looking for your contributions and support.

Please e-mail me at i.tanya@comcast.net if you have a film that is either shooting or screening in Colorado in February or March, and if you have a Colorado-made film that is going national (distribution or in theaters) this winter or spring. Actually, that will help us set up who to feature in the first show, but we also need to set up our show content for future months. So, if you have information on films shooting, screening or going nationwide in April, May or June, please e-mail me about that, too.

We are also looking for additional crew for the show, to help on one episode or several - whatever you have available. Please e-mail me with what crew position(s) most interest you and something about your availability in March or in general, or send questions if you need to know more first. (This is a non-paying gig at least for the first few months, but I will use food and drink to entice you.)

We hope to have a two-hour planning session on some morning, afternoon or evening between Saturday, Jan. 31 and Thursday, Feb. 5. If you want to get in on the ground floor of the show, helping us finalize our general show concept and content, and especially if you have some great ideas for our set and intro/outro, please e-mail me about what dates and times you have available.

As we get more settled in our show details, I will be putting out other requests to the Colorado film community. (We probably could use a creative animator to make a cool intro/outro.) We want this “talk show” with clips and roving reporters to be a fun way to introduce films and film activities in our state to the world, and generate some interest in seeing and supporting Colorado films.

Thanks for your consideration.

Yay! My first CASA meeting... :) It was great meeting a bunch of you guys. I'm sorry I had to cut out early, but I thought it would be nice to spend at least a *little* bit of time with the hubby today. ;)

Hi there. I'm new to the group, and have a question. Is this the group that hosts the monthly screening of films for CASA members? If so, how or where do I go to sign up for this, as I have a film I'd like to show in March. Thanks!

Hi Kim...the CASA general assembly does show films from its members, but you need to contact Darla Rae for that. Usually, only a few per meeting as the GA is mostly about workshping pages and providing time for actors to work on their craft.

You might be thinking of the Emerging Filmmakers Project at The Bug Theatre (www.bugtheatre.org), which is held the third Thursday of the month (I believe I met you and Kasha there last Thursday). The EFP line up is already set for March. Send me the details of your film and we may be able to get it in for the April EFP (it's about full, too). I'm already working on May and June's EFP. Send info to patpub62@msn.com.

Thanks! p

Kim, is your film a short? We'd be happy to show it at the next CASA General Assembly. Just let Darla or me know.

I attended my first GA meeting in Feb. I didn't say much, or anything really. I think I just wanted to get a good feel of the group. It was great. I love the fact that something like this exists here in Denver. I really want to get involved in the scene here in Denver, as well as grow as a writer. I am hoping that here I can get in touch with and talk to people who have the same goals. I'll look forward to chatting and actually meeting you all in hopes of moving forward in my journey.
