A couple of people have asked where I've been and why i've been missing from the CASA boards for the past couple of months. "The reports of my passing are greatly exaggerated!" I've been working. Yes, they still let old geezers on film sets, stages and sound studios...
My golden tones have been released on HOLLYWOOD VS. THE MOB: FACT VS. FICTION, from Millcreek Entertainment and the 10-part/3-DVD series is on sale now at Wal-Mart (for a whopping $5). I recorded the entire narration for Centre Communications in Boulder during the summer and Ron Meyer and his crew were terrific! The series is fascinating, filled with great clips from classic (and not-so-classic) gangster films from the 30's thru the 90's.
I'm looking forward to shooting THE HIGHWAYMAN in the next month or so, in which I play the evil Lord Shafton... attention to detail has been hard work for Darlene Cypser and Company and my costume may well outshine my performance! Meanwhile, I was fortunate enough to do two films with Brian Landis-Folkins: Don Sniffin's ONE-CALL DELIVERY is one of the funniest films I've ever been in (primarily due to Don's script and Brian's talent!), and Jack Gastelbondo's & Mark Diestler's THE CLEARING (in which I have what is called a "Cameo" role) has gained a lot of attention since it was released over the past few months.
Jack Gastelbondo and Mark Diestler called me in just this past weekend to do a short film called THE WINDOW, with Nancy Fingerhood. Though I haven't seen the footage yet, I can tell you that we had a great time filming Jack's script with the help of Steve Clodfelter, Brian Spinner & Todd Geer. If the short is half-as-good as the humor we enjoyed on the set, Jack and Mark will have duplicated their success with THE CLEARING.
For anyone who'll be in the Fort Collins area on February 8-9 and 14, I'll be playing yet another old geezer in Peter Shaffer's THE ROYAL HUNT FOR THE SUN at Bas Bleu Readers' Theatre, with David Fisher and Jonathan Farwell and a host of really fine Northern Colorado actors. In addition, I directed CRAZY MARY for BBRT and we got two standing ovations!!! I'll be directing MARVIN'S ROOM for BBRT, coming in April, and will directing Bas Bleu's main-stage production of I'M NOT RAPPAPORT, coming in June '09, featuring Jonathan Farwell and Kurt Brighton. (And if any stage companies are looking for Sound Designers, I just completed the Sound Designs for ROYAL HUNT, WONDER OF THE WORLD, MARVIN'S ROOM and Openstage's THIRD... so I'm available for that, too!)
As you see, I have NOT fallen off the face of the earth, much to the chagrin of Cheryl's Evil Twin! And I'm always looking for new projects, so if you've got one that calls for a curmudgeon or just a nice old guy, you can reach me here at CASA. See you in the movies!
