Colorado Actors Scripts And Films

Free Support and Outreach for Colorado's Filmmaking Community

Hi, CASA.

For Christmas, I'd like to give my dad a gift certificate to have our home movies transferred from VHS to DVD. I can find businesses that do this, but to narrow it down--and make sure I'm not missing anyone--does anyone have recommendations?

He has a lot of tapes, and I need to try not to break the bank, but at the same time, I need someone I can trust with precious memories. So trustworthiness trumps money, but a good deal is always nice to hear about.

He lives in Colorado Springs, but I'm willing to schlep the videos a reasonable distance (Denver, etc.).

Thank you!

When I did this same sort of thing, I used Mike's Camera in Boulder. That may not be a reasonable distance for him, though.
Thank you, Todd. I will look into them. I appreciate the recommendation.
Cheapest way of course is to get a capture card and do it yourself. With lots of videos though that can be a time consuming process
I work in a film processing lab that offers the service. I don't remember the rates off the top of my head but in general they have more than competitive pricing. The lab is located at 201 Milwaukee St. in Cherry Creek, it was formerly a Motophoto now called The Lab Denver.
Thank you, Trevor.

Just to follow up, the rates are $39.95 for 0-30 mins $59.95 for 31-60 mins and $79.95 for 61-120 mins. For anything over 120 mins the first 120 mins are $79.95 and $17.95 for each additional 30 mins. This is for transfers with DVD Menus and chapter points. There is also another option for club members that autoplays the DVDs with no menu at a rate of about $20 per tape.

If you need more information or want to find out prices for your quantity go ahead and call The Lab Denver at (303) 321-6686. Hope that helps you narrow it down
