Hello CASAites,

I am looking to produce a night of one-acts and monologues that some friends and I have written, and I am looking for any and all suggestions for small venues (we aren't looking to book the Denver Center - yet!). So please just respond to this thread with info for all the great little spaces you know about -- I know they're out there!

Thanks everyone!
Kathryn

Hey Kathryn...have you contacted The Bug Theatre? I do some marketing for them and they handle these kinds of nights all the time. Check out www.bugtheatre.org). Thanks! p
The Bug's definitely on my short list! I'll be in touch.
The Bug Theatre - as Patrick already suggested

The Bovine Theater - I think I read they rent the place out now

The Dairy Center in Boulder has a couple small theaters, and rental discounts for non-profit groups

The Nomad Theater in Boulder - may be bigger than you need, but I was in a play here a couple years ago and it was fairly nice and well priced
Thanks, Todd. I'll look into those, too. I think we want to keep it down towards Denver, but I've performed at the Dairy, it's a good space.

K
Crossroads Theater on the rail.
Hey Kathryn, all these venues listed are good ( The Dairy Center has a new artistic director though, and it's much harder for NPOs to get into the space without alot of hassle, just to be forewarned). You could also try contacting Brain at the Playwright (the old Avenue Theatre) - last I knew he was looking for just about any way to turn a buck out of the building.

Pam Menscher might also be a good resource at Red Rocks Community College - she's on the Western Regional Playwright Showcase committee, and the RMTA committee, and might be able to help out with either securing space at their college's small theatre, or helping you in finding a space closer to downtown.

As I write this, I'm also thinking of the John Hand, out at the Lowry space. They've been doing fairly well getting crowds in there the last couple of years, with some decent shows that have gotten great critic support. Off the top of my head, I can't think of who's running the place, but you can contact Bernie Cardell via the rockymountaintheatre.org group on the Yahoo user groups and find out.
Thanks, Matt. Those will be great resources. I should also mention that I'm looking at Tues/ Wed nights, which are traditionally dark nights for theatre venues.
Yea, I'd say those nights are a safe bet for any of the aforementioned venues.

Oh, and to correct a typo, it's Brian (not Brain, lol) @ the Playwright.

I got to thinking about it, and if you run into trouble getting a theatre venue in town, there are an assortment of churches scattered all over the metro area that hold staged readings in their basements, etc. usually one night a week. You could also talk to Marilyn at the Mercury Cafe about using the upstairs, Leela's European Cafe (they do acoustic music, poetry readings, etc. on their stage), or possibly Aaron at the D-Note about using their stage space. Tooey's doesn't have a stage, but they're hurting for about any entertainment in there, so they might be worth a shot, too (Colfax & Marion).

I'm sure I'll think of more.
Awesome--yes, the Playwright, that's the name of one that I was trying to think of. Some friends of mine did a show there a couple of years ago, it's a good space. All great ideas, I'm sure we'll find a good one!
