The short film, Gertrude’smain character, Mathew is lost in routine alienating himself from social adventure. He fills all of his time watching off beat documentaries with his father, a recluse since the passing of his wife, and reading choose your own adventure novels, his only escape from reality. He leaves his house only to work at Clyde's local grocery. At Clyde's, Mathew meets Gertrude, a woman who has done and seen nearly everything; she is seemingly the most interesting woman in the world. Their meetings continue every Tuesday night for the duration of two years, concluding in the giving of a written tip of advice by Gertrude. When Gertrude suddenly dies and invites Mathew to her funeral and will reading via invitation, he is left with the final unpublished choose your own adventure novel written by Gertrude, forcing Mathew into making a decision to change his life drastically or fall into his dreadful routine forever.
Name: Mathew David Benjamin
Age: Early to mid 20's
Paid: $200 for (6) days of shooting plus some pre production
Mathew is in his early 20's. He has little to no social life and deals mainly with his father and customers at the grocery store in which he works. This character is fairly reclusive, but he is not unreachable by any means. He was not always so quiet, but a few years of falling into routine and a lack of social mobility brings him farther into his own head. He must see the conversations he has with Gertrude as a jumping off point to go explore the world and choose his own adventures outside of the novels he religiously reads.

Paid: $300 for (2) days on set plus some pre production
Gertrude is a fairly quiet individual, and looking at her you wouldn’t know that she is the most interesting woman in the world. When she does speak she is incredibly convincing and trusted. She is an older woman with a unique wardrobe that does as she pleases, but much prefers to help others than herself. Her last goal in life is to make Mathew the most interesting person in the world.
Name: Charles Benjamin
Paid: $100 for (2) 1/2 days of production
Charles Benjamin has a very offbeat personality. He has become a recluse of sorts since the passing of his wife, but has joined many social societies to fill his time. Him and Mathew spend most of their time together watching documentary film due to his new found obsession. Charles is not lost or looking for anything. He seems sad to Mathew, but is in fact very happy with his life and doesn't want to hold Mathew back.
Paid: $200 for (2) 1/2 days on set plus voice over recording sessions.
The Butler is a silent character throughout most of the film standing by Gertrude in some scenes. He is however the all-knowing narrator at the same time. The Butler is a mysterious character who isn't revealed as the narrator until the very end. He is very stern and contains little emotion. He is Gertrude's loyal servant that will carry out her dying wish to perfection.
